The Walled Garden The walled gardens were first laid out in the 1780s and during the past 25 years they have been brought back into full organic production, certified by the Soil Association. We grow a wide and diverse range of vegetables, some fruit, cut flowers and herbs within its sheltered 2 acres, 3 polytunnels and 20 metre glass house. It is an intensive small scale ‘closed’ system and we operate on a 5 year rotation utilising green manures and home-made compost to maintain the soil’s fertility. Cut flowers and a plant stall of hardy perennials and herbs add to the produce sold in our on site farm shop (open from June to December). Our small orchard provides apple juice, and there is a freezer full of local organic meat and eggs, alongside Penpont honey, jams & chutneys. An ongoing restoration of the high walls is slowly and steadily making its way around the perimeter.
